Property
taxes in Brevard County generally run between $20.00-$24.00
per $1,000 (called the millage rate) of a home’s assessed
value.
A home’s assessed value is generally 60%-70% of your
purchase price. On a typical three-bedroom, two-bath home
purchased for $170,000, this would put your property taxes
in the $2,200 - $2,600 range.
What is Homestead?
The State of Florida provides a homestead exemption of $25,000
for qualifying residences:
1. If you own the property on January 1 of the year for
which you request homestead status.
2. If the home is your principal residence (reside for at
least six months).
3. If you are a permanent resident of the State of Florida.
The $25,000 Homestead Exemption generally lowers your tax
bill by $500-$600 per year.
